『すこし白酒 めされたか あかいお顔の 右大臣』
童謡「うれしいひなまつり」の歌詞に登場する豊島屋の「白酒」。
3月3日の雛祭りに向け、今年も発売を開始しました！
この童謡は1935年（昭和10年）に作詞されたものですが、
歴史をさかのぼること江戸時代。雛祭りが女性のお祭りとして広まっていったのがその頃でした。（※「一般社団法人日本人形協会」HP参照）
この時代は女性が酒を飲むことは良しとされておりませんでしたが、
年に一度の女性の日である雛祭りだけは、お酒を楽しむことができました。
女性がお酒を飲んではならないなんて現代では考えられないですね。
当時の女性は雛祭りの日をとてもとても待ちどおしく楽しみにしていたことでしょう！
その日に欠かせないのが白くて甘い、豊島屋の白酒だったのです。
白酒は江戸で大流行し、売り出しの日は人々が殺到し怪我人が出るほどの人気ぶりでした。
徳川家康もその美味しさに魅了されたと伝えられ、その歴史と伝統は今もなお受け継がれています。

To celebrate the upcoming Hina Matsuri (Doll Festival) on March 3rd, Toshimaya has released its iconic “Shiro Zake,” featured in the lyrics of the nursery rhyme “Ureshii Hina Matsuri.”
Although this nursery rhyme was written in 1935, its roots trace back to the Edo period when Hina Matsuri began evolving into a celebration for women. During that era, it wasn’t generally accepted for women to consume alcohol, except on the special occasion of Hina Matsuri. Women eagerly awaited this day, and the indispensable sake for the celebration was the sweet and white sake from Toshimaya.
White Sake became a massive trend in Edo, drawing crowds so large on sales days that injuries were reported due to its overwhelming popularity. It’s even said that Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate, was captivated by its deliciousness, contributing to the enduring history and tradition of Toshimaya’s Shiro Zake.
